New Plant Variety Protection (PVP) Section
In Myanmar, the New Plant Variety Protection Law was enacted on 20th, January, 2016 with the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw Law No.15, 2016. After that, the New Plant Variety Protection Unit was started under the Department of Agricultural Research on 10th, May, 2016 and it was raised into New Plant Variety Protection Section on 22nd, March, 2017. Now, that Law was revised in line with the 1991 act from The International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) and the new law was re-enacted at 24th, September, 2019 with the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw Law No.29, 2019.
Mission
To work on the implementation of the harmonized New Plant Protection System in the Members of The International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV), if Myanmar become a member of UPOV through the implementation of the harmonized New Plant Variety Protection System in ASEAN + 3 countries.
Vision
To support the adoption of a New Plant Protection System with the aim of producing more new plant varieties that will benefit society.
Objective
To carry out the necessary office work in the implementation process according to the duties of the Central Committee for National New Plant Variety Protection formed under the New Plant Variety Protection Law To support the success of administrative and technical activities when applying for the protection of new plant varieties in order to obtain the plant breeders’ rights.
