Industrial Crop Research Section
Sugarcane
Sugarcane research has been carried out at the Pyinmana Sugarcane Breeding Farm since 1925. In 1976, the Department of Sugarcane was established at the Yezin Agricultural Research Institute and continued to carry out sugarcane research. Since 2006, in collaboration with the Department of Fiber Production, the Department of Industrial Crops has been formed to carry out sugarcane research under this department. Currently, in collaboration with the Sugarcane Department under the Myanmar Industrial Crop Development Enterprise, sugarcane varieties are being exchanged and tested. Selection of new varieties of sugarcane by cross-breeding.
Ongoing Research
Research is underway to develop new sugarcane varieties that are high in sugar, high yielding and resistant to disease.
Import Selection
Foreign varieties cannot be imported annually. From time to time, a few new varieties are being cultivated in neighboring Thailand and China’s Yunnan Province.
Hybrid Selection
Field Crossing and Biparental Crossing are carried out. Each year, more than 1,455 plants are transplanted and selected, and more than 68 lines are selected at each stage of the competition.
Plant Tissue Culture
Potential new sugarcane cultivars are being tested using plant tissue cultivars to obtain native seedlings.
Research Results
Yezin-1 (1981); Yezin-2 (1983); Yezin-3 (1984); Yezin-4 (DAR-4) and Yezin-1 Myo Tun were published. One of them, Yezin, is widely cultivated by farmers. Newly selected 96-47 and 96-1372 hybrids are potential varieties. 60 days after planting In 80 and 100, one to three applications of water increased from 7 to 10 tons of sugarcane. Although sugarcane can be grown all year round, it should be planted between December and January to get the highest yield. The species will be harvested in November and October. Older varieties should be harvested in December and December and January. Delayed harvest can result in 10% to 40% loss of yield.
Cotton
Since 1974, the Department of Agricultural Research has been established in the Department of Agricultural Research to carry out cotton research. From 1974 to 1983, the import of varieties and selection of breeds were carried out in Ma Hlaing Farm, And Meikhtila Research. Since the establishment of the Myanmar Cotton and Silk Company, cotton research has been carried out separately. In 2006, the Department of Agricultural Research jointly formed the Department of Industrial Crops in collaboration with the cotton and silk industry. And co-designing research projects. Until 2016, three types of cotton towels; We have been able to produce 4 kinds of long cotton yarn.
Ongoing Research
Aims to produce new, high-yielding, high-yield cotton-resistant cotton varieties.
Import Selection
There is no import option. Only a handful of new yarns imported from private companies have been tested.
Hybrids Selection
Four hybrids have been cross-pollinated annually, and 162 lines are being cultivated at local farms under the Department of Agricultural Research and under the Department of Cotton and Silk.
Concentrated Research
Search for male R-lines; Integration testing is underway.
Breeding Females – 54 Lines
Searching for R-lines – 9 lines
Integration Test – 33 Lines
Wash Grain
He has been working at Shwe Laung Farm since 1973. Worked in the Department of Fiber Production and in 2006 under the Department of Industrial Crops. Currently, in collaboration with the Department of Laundry Products, we are conducting field visits to the main areas of the laundering industry to find agricultural problems. Selection of new varieties to meet needs.
Ongoing Research
We are working to achieve a high quality, low yield and low yield.
Import Selection
No new varieties have been imported since 1978.
Inbreeding Selection
Two annual hybrids of pods and pods are selected, and 10 varieties are selected annually in the cultivated areas.
Research Results
The rows are 3 feet apart from each other at the time of the last division. It is found that the maximum yield is 150,000 plants per acre at 4 ”. Planting time according to the type of weeds. Planting distance and harvesting time were identified.
